Prof. Thoman has been a Chemistry Lab Instructor for 18 years with the college.
He also works part-time helping the Advancing Science program with their chemistry needs for preparing equipment and chemicals that will be loaned to local high schools.
His full-time, day job, is teaching chemistry at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, PA. This is his 25th year teaching high school and he reports that he could not imagine doing anything different. Helping students learn an exciting subject of chemistry has been very rewarding. He has worked with well over 3,000 students between high school and college.
Prof. Thoman met his wife, Kara, of 21 years in 1997 when they were at College at Lebanon Valley. They married in 2002. Their family now includes 4 children, Aidan (17), Landon (15), Mason (10) and Madison (4).
Prof. Thoman’s free time is spent gardening and volunteering as President of Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association in Monroe Township, Cumberland County where he has been a member for 41 years and served on the board for over 27 years. The Association works to preserve steam and agricultural past and is especially proud to have a fully operational 1901 PRR Steam Locomotive, built in Altoona, PA. You are welcome ride the train and participate in other Association events held at 1 Steam Engine Hill, Mechanicsburg. The Association hosts 4 to 5 events a year at this location.
