Prof. Suryn has continued teaching both the general and organic chemistry yearlong sequences, along with overseeing the general chemistry labs. He has continued to teach an intensive version of the general chemistry sequence meant to better support our students coming to Gettysburg without a solid foundation in math and chemistry. The course continues to have students actively requesting to join the four-day-a-week 8am class!
As Prof. Funk enjoys his sabbatical this year, Prof. Suryn will be overseeing the organic labs and discussions.
Prof. Suryn attended the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education in summer of 2022, and gave a JCCTL talk on “Strategies for an effective first day of class”.
After challenges during COVID, he was finally able to host the annual “Art in Science Competition” at the end of the fall semester! Prof. Frey and Thompson were participants, with Prof. Thompson winning the “Best Overall Work” prize. For more information about the “Art in Science Competition” held in Fall 2022 and plans for the 2023 competition, take a look at the Art in Science page of this newsletter.
