Prof. Laudenschlager is a Visiting Assistant Professor teaching Organic Chemistry I lecture and General Chemistry I lab this fall semester. In the spring, she will be teaching General Chemistry II lecture and lab as well as Organic Chemistry II lab. Prof. Laudenschlager earned her PhD in 2022 from the University of Virginia working under Prof. Michael Hilinski. In her graduate work, she focused on developing new [5+1] cycloaddition strategies for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing rings through nitrene transfer using vinyl cyclopropanes. These new methods have allowed access to tetrahydropyridine scaffolds that had previously not been reported in the literature. In the future, she hopes to build upon this work to synthesize a library of different heterocycles using various cycloaddition partners and catalysts.
As a Gettysburg College alumnus, Prof. Laudenschlager has been enjoying being back on campus to work alongside her previous professors and be engaging with her students about all thing’s chemistry! She’s excited for a year filled of Servo cookies, runs on the battlefields, and getting to know current Gettysburg students!
